In what manner will you have to think about God? God is the source of everything and all. Don’t read a book about a cruel man and start condemning him. He is cruel and he is condemned by his own action. You don’t have to condemn him. For you, he is included in the world which is God’s. Consider God to be the source of everything - good, bad, indifferent, nice, everything, beauty, ugliness.

Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru. Jai Guru.
I am again on the same subject. What is that subject? Mind is the most important factor in our life, in our experience, in all our efforts, in everything that we attain during the course of our life and with our personality. When I say devotion is very simple, the answer is not in the affirmative. Everybody wants to say, “Swamiji, it is difficult, Swamiji, it is difficult.” But I don’t know, I have never found it difficult.
Krishna says that even if a man is most sinful, he has been very sinful, condemned by everybody, harming everybody, even the most sinful person, this is so far as his life till now is concerned, suppose “bhajate mām ananya-bhāk”, suppose he starts worshipping me exclusively. What prevents you from worshipping God exclusively? Exclusive means what? Worshipping Him and Him alone, thinking about Him, depending upon Him, desiring Him, calling Him, telling Him, talking to Him. See, already one person is very sinful, so he has a very bad memory, he is being hurt. In such a situation, Krishna says, “If only he can take to exclusive thoughts and dependence on me, ‘sādhur-eva sa mantavyaḥ’, that sinful man should be considered as good and noble, only because he has taken the right decision in life." What is that right decision? To worship God exclusively. Kṣipraṁ bhavati dharmātmā - very soon he becomes a righteous, noble and virtuous soul. If this is the reward and process of devotion, in what way do you say it is difficult?
In the name of devotion, what is he doing? He is not climbing a mountain, he is not keeping himself under water, jumping into the fire, running, starving, fasting. Nothing! He has to exclusively worship God. Keep God in his heart, think about Him, feel that he is resting on God, talking to God. "Kṣipraṁ bhavati dharmātmā, śaśvac-chāntiṁ nigacchati", as a result he will attain perpetual and imperishable śānti. Tell me, where is the difficulty now? You want to be continuing to be sinful? Then you don’t need devotion. If you want to stop your cruelty and become good, noble, great and laudable, praiseworthy, then you have to take to devotion.
What is that devotion? In Bhagavad Gita, Krishna says
इति मत्वा भजन्ते मां बुधा भावसमन्विताः ।।
iti matvā bhajante māṁ budhā bhāva-samanvitāḥ ||
See, these are verses which you should read and contemplate upon.
Ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavo mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate.
Mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate. 'By me alone all are activated, everything in small measure, big measure, minute as well as macro, all are activated by me, minute as well as macro, all are activated by me. I am the source of everything.' Now this fact, what do we have to do about it?
Iti matvā. Will you listen to me and absorb the message? Iti matvā - thinking in this manner, doing manana in this manner.. what is the manana? God is the source of everything. If the mind doesn’t accept it, argue about it, think about it repeatedly. "My dear mind, don’t resent, don’t revolt. God alone is the source of everything." If a person is wicked, wherefrom did he get the wickedness, that wicked idea? His mind, he is not the author of his mind. Somehow a mind has been inserted into his body which prefers wickedness. Wherefrom did he get the idea of wickedness? How is wickedness displayed in this world?
If a man does cruelty with his hand, because he has the hand and fingers he does. Wherefrom did he get his hand and fingers? He did not create them. Here is a world surrounding him consisting of infinite choices and selections. Unless there is such a world surrounding him, how can he choose bad things? So, the author of everything is God. Even when a man does cruelty, his heart is beating, lungs are breathing, blood is circulating, his brain is producing ideas, only through all these processes he is able to commit even cruelty. Could not God or the system stop his cruelty? Why does he not stop? So, is he doing what he does or he is made to do?
“Mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate, iti matvā bhajante māṁ budhāh” - Knowledgeable people or people with discretion, viveka, they have to think in this manner and by this kind of thinking, reflection and rumination, bhāva-samanvitāḥ, they are actually united with God by this kind of a thought. What is that thought? God alone is the source of everything and God alone activates everything, animates everything. These two-three sentences, how is it difficult for you to think about them? You may not remember, but why don’t you debate upon it?
If you say God is not at the back of the cruelty of people, then you will have to say who is at the back. Initially you say he is wrong. I agree he is wrong. But how did the wrong man come to be born in this world? Do you think he is responsible for his birth? No! Are the parents responsible for having given birth to a wicked child? No! What about the grandparents? Much less. Do you mean to say the surrounding air produced wickedness in him, or the earth or water? Then, wherefrom did it come? It could have come, if at all, only from the all-source, God. Today or tomorrow my dear souls, you will have to think in this manner. Then only your agitations will stop, the doubts will vanish, bad will go from the mind and you will be a repository of pure and sublime devotional fondness. Devotion means acceptance of everything as God. Thousand people may argue against this proposition. You should not swerve or swing.
Iti matvā bhajante māṁ budhā bhāva-samanvitāḥ. It is called the 'bhāva-samanvidatva'. What does it mean? You become united with God only through your mental attitude and deliberation. What a great proposition! How dare anybody say that it is difficult? This is more for the wicked people that for the good people.
iti matvā bhajante māṁ budhā bhāva-samanvitāḥ ||
It’s a very great fortune and a treasure. It’s a great blessing for the mind to be told like this and to be thinking like this. So, think God to be the source of everything and also the motivation behind everyone in spite of there being cruelty and goodness in the world. Let you not slip when you see cruelty, let you not slip when you see goodness. Remain constantly tied to the sublimity called God.
Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru.
