"Unflinching devotion to the Teacher is paramount in the life of a true seeker. To begin with, an external God can be the object of faith. But once the devotee grows to be a seeker, only a Wise Teacher can fulfil his quest.  It is then for the seeker to get purified and enlightened by the words of wisdom from his Guru.  Their bond and attunement put the Teacher on the pedestal of God.  Such an impeccable Guru-sishya bond alone bestows wisdom, strength and fulfillment to the seeker."

Swami Nirviseshananda Tirtha evinced a strong inclination for the spiritual path from a very young age. At 24, he got initiated into Brahmavidya from Baba Gangadhara Paramahamsa of Dakshinkhanda, West Bengal. Even though he chose the academic path, Scientific Quest and Spiritual Pursuit have been complementary to each other in his search for the Ultimate Truth.

Regarding this experience, Swamiji says, “As soon as I started studying Physics, I fell in love with it. Physics used to give me the joy of expansion, the joy of dispassion or impersonality. If we are able to integrate the fundamental philosophy of Physics into our vision of life and the world, then it will certainly generate impersonality, impartiality and humility in our mind.”

After a PhD in Physics, he became a scientist and assistant professor in the Indian Institute of Technology – Kharagpur. By then, his spiritual quest had become very intense and was manifest in every aspect of life. In 1987, he renounced his household and professional life, and dedicated himself wholesomely to spiritual pursuit & societal welfare under the guidance of Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha.

Swami Nirviseshananda Tirtha’s special focus has been to expose the concepts and ideas from Vedanta in a very simple and practical manner, sometimes with schematic diagrams, without compromising on the depth and profundity of the subject. Swamiji’s rational exposition of the Upanishads and the Bhagavadgeeta coming from his deep experiential knowledge of Truth has helped people from different walks of life to apply spirituality in all life-situations.

Swamiji revels in exposing the lofty dimensions of human mind enshrined in our Country’s literature and culture. His rational analysis of Hinduism have helped many discover their real cultural roots, which not only have reinforced their understanding, but also have enabled them to pass on the legacy to their children. The series of presentations entitled ‘Science and Spirituality’ have helped scientists, researchers, and academicians among others discover the real purport of spirituality.

Swami Nirviseshananda Tirtha regularly conducts discourses and classes on Upanishads and Bhagavadgeeta in the Ashram as well as in various other cities in India, Malaysia, Indonesia and USA. Swamiji emphasizes that “the main aim of spiritual pursuit is to gain the right knowledge of ourselves as well as of the world, so that we can live a life of freedom and fulfillment.” “Evidently, the earlier in life we start the pursuit the better”, says Swamiji.
