"Self-realization is meant to ensure fulfilment for one’s own self. It is not reaching somewhere or getting at something external, like going to the peak of a mountain. The attainment is in dissolving the mind and intelligence, and getting into the very core of oneself. In other words, it is like multiplying everything with zero."

Short Description

Mind alone is the cause of bondage and freedom. Mind alone is the cause and you are not concerned about others’ mind. You can only handle your mind, your mind, your mind. And that mind should be enriched every day. And the enrichment is not by an objective process, not at all! The enrichment is making the mind flexible, assimilative and harmonious. Do not become rigid, that rigidity of the mind should be lost.

Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru. Jai Guru.

I am still wondering as to how the message about the mind can be driven home to all of you. Some of you who gathered for the birthday event have returned and some are yet to return, so our two or three or four-day gathering is coming to an end. At least you should take message from here.

मन एव मनुष्याणां कारणं बन्धमोक्षयोः ।
Mana ēva manushyāṇām karaṇam bandha-mokshayoḥ |
(Brahmabindu Upanishad 2)

मन एव, mind alone is the cause of bondage and freedom.

There is nothing in this world which we cannot accept and nothing in this world which we cannot reject. An event that has taken place, except acceptance, what will you do? If a dear one has died, you can go on mourning, but the death is a fact. This fact is unalterable. It is something that has taken place. Being so, what prevents you from accepting it? That sense of acceptance does not grow. That sense of assimilation does not grace the mind.

Similarly, you have lost suddenly some money, what you will do? It is gone. One of my very close devotees in Delhi, one day reported to me, “Swamiji, there was a burglary in my house and all my gold has gone.” Because of my freedom with her I laughed. “Swamiji, why are you laughing?”

“What else shall I do? You are reporting it has gone and we cannot do anything about it. Let us simply accept it. This is something that was robbable, that is why it has been robbed. But I have given you a wealth and a treasure which cannot be robbed.” I don’t think she was very happy when I said this. But she is reporting to me about a loss that has already taken place. Now what can the mind do except accepting the loss? It has taken place.

You try to build your fortune. Years passed, they are living, they changed their residence. They have their own flat, two cars, two children, no problem, both of them are not married, so they have no in-law problem. The son-in-law and the daughter-in-law are not causing any problem. They are so comfortable and both the children are available to look after the old parents and they look after them like iris do the pupil of the eye.

Now, people do not give me that freedom, that is why I don’t say. I feel like laughing and dancing when somebody reports that something has taken place, something here, something there. See, I am only asking you to accept what has come, not what has not come. I don’t ask you to invite “Mr. Development, please come to me.” No. Whatever has developed, I say you accept. And whatever has gone, you let go. It is a post development attitude which alone is possible and no substitute to it. Let us understand that this is the cause of it.

मन एव मनुष्याणां कारणं बन्धमोक्षयोः ।
बन्धाय विषयासक्तं मुक्त्यै निर्विषयं स्मृतम् ॥ २॥

It is that object delusion, object fascination, object fascination, object fascination, object fascination, delusion that puts us into trouble. When the mind is free.. And is there any object which you possess? No! You only have an impressional feeling that “I possess an object.” Suppose some articles are in your house and your mind is not able to respond to and react to those articles, then will they ever create any impression, joy or sorrow in your mind? It is the mind’s identity that causes everything. Mind’s identity, mind’s identity, mind’s identity. So, we are getting attached to mind’s own impressions, impressions. They are like bubbles in water. They come up and they also get broken, broken, broken. This is what is happening, happening, happening. Why don’t you judge everything on the basis of the mind and the mental formations? Your son is a bubble in your mind, your daughter is another bubble. It is just like lines drawn on water. Why don’t you think about this proposition and then get into it and then assimilate this proposition? If you can do so, I believe the entire world and life will change. Will you remember this?
